Makeshift mysticism

Takkeherrie

wood, stone

When the angle is right the branch vibrates to produce clear tones within itself. I drag the wood across the stone and seek for a fruitful change in resistance. Between pitches it produces a sound similar to the exhale of a deep breath.

Through this continuous exhale the clear sounds slowly form. The branch will try to speak and I am there to help it find it’s voice. Each branch has their own story; some sing theirs, while some others grunt and mumble.

The technique I created resembles the handling of a Tibetan singing bowl. And like those bowls, tracing a continuous path evokes a similar sensation to that of meditating.
